1/2 mile Whoo Hooo!

I got the okay from my PT to try a half mile today. A cold and staying in a hotel (meaning my first run in over a month had to be on a DREADMILL) could keep me from giving it a go! And it was a success! No more sharp pain! I believe next I can up it up to a mile or mile and half. I am not sure I can run that far anymore!

As a result of my good mood I offer a humorous video to you. Make sure you can hear the music. It will bring back memories. I expect a similar performance from Tom, Mike and Bryan at our post GB half marathon celebration!

It has been awhile

Whoa - Badgerrunner is back on the scene! Well, not actually - just seeing how many of you are still out there. I know it doesn't help my readership when I don't post for weeks on end - but injuries will do that to you. I will get to that later.

So, I saw this picture and I had to post it. Maybe some morning Mike will show up dressed like the caped crusader who ran this marathon - in a very respectable 3:39. Yes, he registered as Peter Parker. I can't imagine running 26 miles with that face mask on - of course - he is Spidey!

So, my recovery from PF is going slowly, but it seems to be getting better. Matt and Bob at Innovations have been excellent. I am starting to do some impact - hoping like a bunny for 90 seconds three times a day. Yes - funny to watch. I might be able to run SHORT distances this weekend if it goes well.... keep your fingers crossed!

A full group

A full group this morning. Sandy joined us too! I don't think she could take another day of e-mailed delivered guilt! Even though we were glad she wasn't back, we still wouldn't tell her all the stories from the weekend. It's called being a good running partner. Remember the saying - "My job is to be your running partner (parent), not your friend!" 6 miles.

Oh Sandy...

Isn't there a song in GREASE called "Sandy"? We missed you this morning, but more your loss since you missed all the good stories from the weekend! Wendy has an excuse, so I am not going to give her a hard time! We will have to make sure we run through the park on Wed so you can pay your fine by running through the sprinkler!

I nice run with Jenny and the Cousins. They did 6, I did 5.

Stormy Weather

Jill, Christy and I enjoyed a 7.7 mile run through a thunderstorm. Luckily, during the worst of it the wind was at our backs, so it was an enjoyable ride. I actually enjoyed it because it was substantially cooler than my last two runs. The biggest bummer was seeing red maple leaves that had fallen around a tree.... meaning fall is around the corner which means winter is not far behind - but enough of that negative talk!

rain vs humidity

Today was one of those days where I wondered if I would have gotten just as wet if it was raining. It was SO humid today! Pea Soup! I think rain would have been more enjoyable. Of course if it had been raining (as I had hoped when I looked out the door this morning) I would not have run.

Humid

I found a wonderful video of a Nike commercial that made me wonder if this is what Mike dreams about doing every run with us. Or maybe it will be what he and Tom do throughout next year's GB half... I know they were really holding back this year.

Humid run with Christy and Jenny. We missed Wendy - hope you IT Band is doing better!

This better work!

The Podiatrist gave my foot a shot of Cortisone today. It better work because it hurt! I think he was surprised at how much I screamed. Okay - not quite a scream, but my philosophy has become that if a doctor doesn't know how much it hurts, there is no chance it is going to hurt less and this time it hurt more! I think he was just trying to be nice when he said "People's reactions vary." when I asked if it normally hurt this much because the look on his face didn't match his statement!

I told Jim that it ranks second in pain experiences - giving birth doesn't count - that is an pain experience all its own! It ranks right behind the time the dentist hit a nerve with a needle when administering a shot of Novocaine. Talk about a lightening bolt! Geez!

He actually said I could run tomorrow, but since I ran today and in order to play it a little safe, I am going to wait until Thursday. It is amazing how the possibility that I might be able to run without pain afterward made me feel giddy with excitement. Even though I have been running, being able to think about what race I will run next made me excited rather than depressed!

New Rules

Mike started a new set of rules today. According to HIM if you are the last one to arrive at Walgreens you have to run through the sprinklers at the baseball diamonds - Yes - when they are on . To prove it to Jill and I, he ran through one this morning. As he was getting wet Jill and I decided that since Mike made up the rule, it must only apply to him. So whenever he is the last one to arrive, he has to run through the sprinklers!

Causing a scene

Jenny and I turned a few heads this morning. The last block or so of our run we walked backwards and of course we were right on Black River St. I was desperate to try something new for my foot and remembered that last year Jenny's friend was doing this for an injury, although it was not PF. We saw a lot of long looks. So if you see people starting to do this around town, you know we were the first!

The joy of...

Ah, the joy of wearing new running shoes! Finally! They felt good! I hope it helps my foot. I can definitely tell that the cushion in my old ones is worn out.

I nice a cool morning run with Credit Union girls, Christy and Jenny. Once again I was the only one with out a 'y' ending my name. Jill - where were you when I needed you? It went better then I expected given it was my first real one after vacation. The ones that I did during vacation didn't really count. Yes, I was running, but it was in vacation mode. Just enough to remind my muscles what running felt like.

Vacation

I have been running every other day while on vacation. Today is the first day I have had Internet access. I have been running by time, not distance. It is too difficult to run a decent pace when I am running around campgrounds and in unfamiliar territory. Today I ran 4.7 miles. Of course the first half was almost all uphill (Who knew Door County is so hilly!). I decided to turn around and do an out and back thinking I would be running down hill most of the way. Well, I was accept I was running against a healthy wind! Figures! Couldn't even enjoy the down hill. Grace biked along with me and was in a good mood, so that was enjoyable except when she wanted to talk as I was running up hill!

Enough!

My foot was really hurting yesterday despite not running for 4 days. I was going to call and say I wouldn't run today as a result and then I realized - "Hey! I have not run and my foot STILL hurts, so obviously not running is not helping!" At least that is how I rationalized it. And so glad I did! It was a beautiful run with Sandy and Jenny. It felt good and it went fast!

McSteamy

Today was a little warm and humid, but we have run in worse. Mike, Wendy and I enjoyed a 6 miler. Wendy continued on to get some more miles in.

My foot feels good today. I taped it for the run. It is the first time I haven't had a sore spot when I started icing it. Hopefully that is a good sign.

I was with my dentist in-laws this weekend and I heard the emphasis again on what pop does to teeth. I have heard the story before and believe it, but not enough to give up my Mtn Dew. I saw and article on it this am, unfortunately it wasn't good news. I won't ruin Wendy's day by explaining further!
